Yamaha Aerox 155 vs N-Max 155, the Differences

Yamaha Aerox 155 vs Nmax

Yamaha Indonesia recently launched maxi scooter called Yamaha Aerox 155. Aerox 155 using same Nmax engine that had already sold in Indonesia. VVA technology (Variable Valve actuation) is a mainstay Nmax also offered in Aerox. This is make interesting to compare the two scooter with different segments, but it is still worth to compare Aerox with Nmax.

As already mentioned above, Aerox and Nmax shared same engine. Some settings may be slightly different. It can be seen from the peak power of both. Nmax had 14.9 HP at 8000 rpm while Aerox 14.8 HP at 8000 rpm. Slightly different especially if you see the resulting torque. Nmax has a torque of 14.4 Nm obtained at 6000 rpm while Aerox is 13.8 Nm at 6250 rpm. This make Nmax's torque is still greater than Aerox.

However, Aerox is 9 kg lighter than Nmax. Yamaha Aerox's power to weight ratio (PWR) reaching 0.125 hp / kg compared with Nmax  with only 0.117 hp / kg. Aerox's torque to weight ratio (TWR) reached 0.117 Nm / kg while the Nmax is 0.113 Nm / kg. Aerox lighter weights make it more agile than Nmax. Very reasonable, because Yamaha Indonesia positioned Aerox as Sport scooter witch is a highly charged performance.

According to the both official specifications, Aerox is longer 35 mm higher than 10 mm but more slender 40 mm of Nmax. Aerox's ground clearance and seat height is also higher than Nmax. Aerox has 142 mm of ground clearance while Nmax is 135 mm. Aerox seat height is 790 mm compared to Nmax, Nmax is 25 mm lower (765 mm). We never tested Aerox but we believes both have different ergonomics.

Although Aerox has lighter weight, Yamaha Aerox equiped with larger footwork than Nmax. Nmax is using 13" wheels while Aerox is using 14" wheels. The front tires are both equally using same size (110) but in the rear, Aerox has wider tyre size (140) compared to Nmax's 130 size. With the 14" wheels, Aerox is guaranteed to be more powerful in term of acceleration. Another advantage of the 14" wheels application is already a lot of tires choise out there in Indonesian market that make it easier to find some subtitutes.

The fuel tank of both, Aerox obviously smaller than Nmax. The capacity of the fuel tank of Nmax is 6.6 liter while the Aerox is only 4.6 liters. For long-distance trip Nmax can go further than Aerox without refueling to save time. Nmax is known for its "super hard stone suspension" while Aerox is still unknown. However, if we viewed Aerox's sport scooter market positioning, we expected Aerox will using same stiff suspension.

Last, with the design and features of the Aerox and Nmax, Yamaha has given many options for prospective customers. Want an comfort scooter, select Nmax. Want an sporty scooter, Aerox is not a bad choice. Or if you have money tree at home, why not choose Yamaha Xmax 250 for a little show-off in the weekend at the town square.
